FGM/C Prevention & Response in Washington State

Mother Africa is committed to ending Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) through survivor-centered, community-led prevention, education, and advocacy efforts. Our work centers the voices, experiences, and leadership of impacted communities while advancing systems-level change locally and statewide.

Our Role in FGM/C Prevention & Response

Through our FGM/C work, Mother Africa focuses on:

  • Community education & awareness to address myths, stigma, and misinformation around FGM/C

  • Survivor-centered support and referrals, prioritizing safety, dignity, and confidentiality

  • Partnerships and coalition-building with local, regional, and statewide stakeholders

  • Policy advocacy to strengthen protections, prevention efforts, and access to culturally responsive services

Our approach recognizes FGM/C as a human rights issue and a public health concern that requires sustained investment, trust-based engagement, and long-term community leadership.
