In early 2016, Mother Africa was awarded a grant by United Way of King County, under their New Solutions Program, to run a pilot of Mother Africa’s new Economic Empowerment Initiative (EEI). This initiative was designed with 4 tracks:
- Employment Training Classes
- Financial Literacy Workshops
- Certified Nursing Assistant Training Sponsorships
- Driving Training Scholarships
In addition to this funding, Mother Africa was funded by Women’s Funding Alliance under their Thrive Initiative to run a parallel monitoring and evaluation of the EEI.
We look forward to sharing our strong outcomes with you soon!
Mother Africa is now working hard to secure scholarships so African women in our community can attend driving school and obtain their licenses. The impact is huge: With a license, women can commute more efficiently to their jobs, consider applying to work outside their public transit area, and spend more time focused on family and advancing their own goals.
The demand for the driving school scholarships has been so much bigger than we ever expected: For 10 scholarships we have a waiting list of 40!
We need your help…
We need to raise $10,000 to send 25 more women to driving training at $400 each. Every donation is meaningful, and all funds raised will go directly to empowering a refugee or immigrant woman in your community.
I am currently working and my husband gives me a ride. I want to be able to drive myself to work, look for another job and take care of driving my kids to appointments.
To donate, please mail a check to Mother Africa at 1209 Central Ave S, Suite 208, Kent, WA 98032, or contact email@example.com for more information!
